🏫 Student Privacy First

For Schools & Teachers

How Vibe-Verse Phonics protects student privacy and complies with COPPA in your classroom.

Last updated: April 12, 2026

1. How Students Access Vibe-Verse

Students access the Vibe-Verse Phonics game exclusively through anonymous codes generated by their teacher. No student account creation is required. No names, email addresses, or any personally identifiable information (PII) is collected from students.

The process is simple:

  • The teacher creates an adult account (adults only, 18+)
  • The teacher generates anonymous student codes from their Teacher Dashboard (e.g., STAR-01, STAR-02)
  • Students enter only the code to play — no sign-up, no personal information
  • The teacher maintains their own private record of which student uses which code — this mapping is never stored on our servers

The free tutorial game can also be played by clicking "I'm a Student — Play Now" without entering any information whatsoever.

2. Data We Collect from Students

None.

We do not collect any personally identifiable information from students. Specifically:

  • No names or email addresses
  • No photos, audio, or biometric data
  • No geolocation or device identifiers
  • No cookies or tracking on student game sessions
  • No analytics data from student gameplay
  • No persistent records or server-side logs of student activity

In-game phonics reports are generated and displayed in the browser only. They are never transmitted to or stored on our servers.

3. Teacher as Consent Proxy (COPPA School Exception)

Under COPPA's school exception (16 CFR § 312.5(c)(4)), schools and teachers may act as the parent's agent and provide consent on behalf of parents for the collection of student personal information — but only for educational purposes.

In practice, Vibe-Verse Phonics does not collect any student personal information, so direct parental consent is not required. However, we honor the school consent model as a best practice:

  • By generating student codes, the teacher/school acknowledges they have reviewed our privacy practices
  • Teachers are encouraged to share this page with parents and administrators
  • No student education records (as defined by FERPA) are stored on our platform

If your school requires a data processing agreement or vendor review, please contact us at support@vibeverseedu.com.

4. For Parents & Guardians — Your Rights Under COPPA

As a parent or guardian, you have the following rights under COPPA:

  • Right to review: You may request to review any personal information we have collected about your child. Because we collect no student PII, there is no data to review — but we will confirm this promptly upon request.
  • Right to delete: You may request deletion of any personal information collected about your child. Because we collect no student PII, there is no data to delete — but we will confirm this promptly upon request.
  • Right to refuse further collection: You may refuse to allow any further collection of your child's information and require us to delete what has been collected. Because we engage in no ongoing collection from students, this right is inherently satisfied.
  • Right to opt out: You may opt your child out of the service at any time by asking their teacher to revoke the student code.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at:

📧 Email: support@vibeverseedu.com

We will respond to all parental requests within 30 days.

5. Data Retention for Student Sessions

Student game sessions create no persistent records on our servers.

  • Anonymous student codes contain no personal information and are retained only while the teacher's account is active
  • When a teacher's account is deleted, all associated student codes are also deleted
  • Phonics reports generated during gameplay exist only in the browser and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers
  • No server-side logs of student gameplay activity are maintained

We retain data only for the specific purpose for which it was collected, consistent with the FTC's 2025 COPPA Rule amendments regarding data minimization and retention.

6. Third-Party Services

Student game sessions do not interact with any third-party services:

  • No advertising or ad networks
  • No analytics or tracking tools (Google Analytics has been removed from all pages)
  • No third-party cookies
  • No social media integrations on student-facing pages
  • Fonts are self-hosted (no Google Fonts CDN requests during student sessions)

The only third-party service used on the platform is Google Firebase, which provides authentication and database services for adult teacher accounts only. Firebase does not process any student data. See Firebase Privacy and Security.

7. School Data Agreement

Vibe-Verse Phonics collects no student education records as defined by FERPA (20 U.S.C. § 1232g). Phonics reports generated during gameplay are displayed in-browser only and are never transmitted to or stored on our servers.

If a teacher chooses to print a phonics report and associate it with a student, that printed document becomes part of the teacher's own records and is governed by their school's FERPA policies — not ours.

Anonymous student access codes contain no student personal information. The code-to-student mapping is maintained by the teacher off-platform.
